Cast your mind back to the caveman days, if you can.
Men and Woman had completely different genetic makeup (surprisingly after 50,000 years not much has changed).
[Disclaimer: when I write about Men and Women in his answer, I refer to 'Most Men' and. 'Most Woman' as there are always people that go against the typical trends.]
Shopping for Women is: done in a group, with no specific agenda, don't necessarily have to buy anything (and still feel like they had a good time), allows communication and social interaction to run rampant.
Shopping for Men is: smash and grab! Men need goals, targets, times, specifics and objectives.
Men looking for a power tool will find out where that tool is specifically located, map the shortest possible course to its location, buy the specific thing, return home with his 'kill'.
Men: imagine this, I call you up and say, "me and the boys are going to pick you up tomorrow, take you out for a nice day of shopping, have a look around, check out the latest fashions, grab a bite to eat, and come home."
What I have learned as a modern day cave-man is that shopping for Woman is 'an experience', so try to enjoy the experience and (most importantly), when I get the 'entrapment questions' (because the answer was already determined prior to asking you the question) like: "should I buy the gold shoes or the black shoes?" Or "does my bum look big in this?" I now say (as a trained man), "you look beautiful".
